CAPE TOWN – The family of a three-year-old boy who was found dead inside a car after he disappeared near Wellington on Wednesday said they had no money to rest him and were asking the public for help.

Diego Booysen and a four-year-old girl disappeared Monday afternoon at Corona Crescent in Newtown.

The next day, the two were found inside an old car parked in the backyard of a house on the same street they lived on. While the girl was found alive, Diego was dead.

Newtown residents were shocked after the boy’s death.

His uncle, Piet Solomons, said he was the sole breadwinner in the family and also paid for the child’s mother’s funeral earlier in the month.

Solomons asked the public to help them bury little Diego.

“They say it will cost me R7,000 and that it is money that I don’t have,” he said.

Newtown Ward Councilor Aidan Stowman said they would also help the family as much as they could.

It was not yet known what caused the boy’s death and he was part of a police investigation.
