ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has called on all spheres of government to address the socioeconomic well-being of the uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

Magashule hired MKMVA leadership in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.

He pointed to the unfortunate public engagements and issues related to the South African Passenger Train Agency (Prasa), where there was a finding about the legality of safety contracts.

He said the government, led by the department of military veterans, must ensure that all veterans receive assistance and support to participate in the economic sector and that their well-being is addressed.

“It is important that we conduct clean governance that provides opportunity for all of our citizens, including military veterans.

“We call on all formations of military veterans, both legal and non-statutory, to work with the Department of Military Veterans to ensure their personnel record is clean,” Magashule said.

News24 previously reported that Magashule said he was open to talks with his colleague, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.

This followed reports of a war of words that broke out on social media between Mbalula and MKMVA President Kebby Maphatsoe amid a march by the veterans organization towards the ANC headquarters at Luthuli House and the office of the first Gauteng Minister David Makhura.

The ANC also reiterated its condemnation of farm killings and welcomed the government’s efforts to engage communities.

“We also condemn anarchy, the destruction of property by white farmers and the subversion of legal processes as happened in Senekal,” Magashule said.

He reiterated that agricultural communities and their workers played an important role in the socio-economic life of the country in providing food security.

Magashule also called on South Africans to continue to fight the unjust, inhuman and barbarous act of killing innocent women, children and the elderly.
