JOHANNESBURG – The veteran of the African National Congress (ANC) Vusi Msimang has echoed some of the sentiments expressed by the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, when he questioned the credibility of the Military Veterans Associations of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MKMVA ).
Msimang said Eyewitness news that the association, unlike other ANC structures, had no status and should not even have an office at the ANC’s Luthuli House headquarters.
This week, Mbalula launched into the association, calling out its members who marched against him as bullies, with even harsher criticism for its president Kebby Maphatsoe and spokesman Carl Niehaus.
Msimang said it was a shame that the association, which was meant to ensure the well-being of ex-combatants and their families, was at the center of the factional battles.
From worrying about law enforcement allowing MKMVA members to play in the guise of military fatigue to questioning why the association has an office at Luthuli House, Msimang said it was clear that MKMVA served a certain faction in the ANC.
“These are the people who become gramophones and talk to the public about what the leaders of the factions want to do. It is a worrying situation.”
He also disagreed with those who demonstrated against Mbalula this week, saying it was completely irresponsible.
“Again, it’s one of those things where people just don’t fear punishment and do completely irresponsible things.”
Since then, Mbalula has been reprimanded by the ANC, which said that differences between the parties must be dealt with internally.
