Mamelodi Sundowns “Senior Trainer” Steve Komphela has paid an enthusiastic tribute to Mato Madlala, his former employer at Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Komphela announced his arrival at Chloorkop with a statement he issued himself Monday morning, saying that discussions with Madlala on Sundowns’ approach were difficult to reach consensus.
The 53-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs coach was in awe of the “fertile atmosphere” he saw in his new home on his first day at Chloorkop, but he reserved special praise for the Golden Arrows owner.
“As long as I’m talking about the present, I need to go back a bit and look at the past.
“I think I must sincerely and genuinely thank uSis Mato, my president at Golden Arrows. She has been more than a boss to me, ”Komphela said.
“She has been great and I must say it is Mato, thank you very much also for the opportunity and also for the difficult conversations we had before I was able to join Mamelodi Sundowns.
“One thing you should know is that it will always be a deep mark on my heart.
“I am indebted to her. But I’m also excited about Mamelodi Sundowns and I’m looking forward to meeting the yellow nation. “
Komphela couldn’t hide her eagerness to meet and interact with the Sundowns supporters.
The Yellow Nation will see their new coach take his place on the bench alongside joint coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena when Sundowns host Bloemfontein Celtic at Atteridgeville for the MTN8 quarterfinals on Sunday (6pm).
Mngqithi was honored to have the final say on contentious matters among coaches when the club boss Patrice Matsepe made the appointments and Komphela’s roles and responsibilities remain unclear in the overall scheme of things.
“The passionate fans of Mamelodi Sundowns‚ we all know what they look like ‚setting a trend in how they respect the club, how they love the club and how they push the club and how they accept defeat at times when no one else could, ‘” he said. Komphela of the Sundowns followers.
“We appreciate being here.
“There is a great learning experience on my part and there is also an opportunity for them to learn a little about who I am because we know each other from afar and now that we are in the same camp, there is much that is going to be discovered and realigned.
“This is a great opportunity.”
Komphela concluded his first interview as a Sundowns coach by thanking club president Motsepe for the opportunity.
He said the club needs to repay the huge investment the billionaire mining tycoon has invested in the club.
“I think that President Motsepe and his board of directors, the decisions they make are huge and the support they give the club is enormous.
“So the only way to pay for that faith is to stay dedicated and focus on your work and try to do the best you can in your abilities.
“So we appreciate your support in being a part of Mamelodi Sundowns as it grows.”
