JOHANNESBURG – The Western Cape government said an “isolated super spreader event” at a nightclub in Cape Town had been linked to at least 63 cases of COVID-19.

It is understood that at the event, which was held last week, at least 37 enrollment students from various schools contracted the virus after infections traced back to a nightclub called Tin Roof.

The club had allegedly promised cheap alcohol on social media before the event.

Prime Minister Allan Winde said a full investigation by police and the Western Cape Liquor Authority is now underway into the bar in question.

“Our call is for neighbors and businesses to do their part so that we can move forward and make sure this province is safe from the spread of the virus. In this particular case, we note that 63 cases are linked to a single bar or club. “
