JOHANNESBURG – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said on Tuesday that he would not allow a police officer to present evidence against him and party MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi without the media being present to record the procedures.

The couple appeared in Randburg Magistrates Court to respond to allegations that they attacked a police colonel at the funeral of fighting icon Winnie-Madikizela-Mandela in 2018.

The magistrate called several members of the press to their chambers to ask why they did not notify the court in time that they wanted to take images, audio and photographs during Tuesday’s proceedings.

Some media companies responded saying they were only notified at the last minute about this case. As a result, the magistrate said that a media request could be made, but that he was only prepared to hear the request later.

Malema felt aggrieved by this saying that the world needed to see his accuser and hear his complaints of assault.

“Or cover the white man today and cover us later. And if you can’t cover the white man, then you can’t cover us. We should all be covered, ”he said.

At the same time, EFF supporters continued to protest outside in the courtyard.
