Anthony Martial “almost fooled” Manchester United fans when Paul Scholes demands transfer action

Paul Scholes has warned Manchester United that they must sign a natural goalscorer when the transfer window opens in January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent much of the summer chasing a forward player, with Jadon Sancho at the top of his wish list.

United could not come close to the £ 108m valuation of the England forward’s Borussia Dortmund, but could replace him again in the January window.

But Scholes believes United need a center forward, despite Anthony Martial netting 17 Premier League goals from that position last season.

Martial has yet to score during the first weeks of the Premier League season

“These forwards are exceptionally talented guys. We all know it, ”Scholes told Stadium Astro. “The problem with the United forwards is that none of them are a real center forward.

‘”Martial almost fooled us into thinking he was one at the end of last season because he scored so many goals and he was pretty good. He’s gotten off to a pretty bad start this season, which makes you think he’s not. It is misleading.

Manchester United are looking to chart their way back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed Donny van de Beek, but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

“That’s why I’ve kept saying that we need a first-class number 9.”

United hired former PSG forward Edinson Cavani on the deadline to offer competition to Martial. But the United legend feels Cavani’s advanced years mean he is unlikely to be a long-term answer.

Paul Scholes thinks Untied should go for Erling Haaland or Harry Kane in January

“Obviously, in his day, he has been a great quality center forward,” added Scholes. “There is no doubt about it. But he is 33 years old, he looked like he was going to retire. He didn’t play much for PSG last season.

“Five, six years ago, yes, he is a great signing, he will possibly take us to the next level. But I don’t think he will take us to the next level now.”

“But that’s what Manchester United looks like now, it seems to be. I think about the forwards we have … Cavani, it should be a loaned signing.

“If you are fighting without a center forward, it should be a two or three month loan just to get through a difficult period.”
