Pattern Virat Kohli praised monday Villiers’ AB “superhuman” effort in a slow field after the great South African connected 73 Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Bangalore thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 82 runs in Sharjah as De Villiers stood tall with his 33-ball blitz and an undefeated position of the century with Kohli, who had 33.

Bangalore recorded 194 for two, a total their players defended by holding Kolkata at 112 for nine in 20 overs.

De Villiers, 36, brought down the house with two of his six six leaving the stadium and one hitting a moving car on the road as he passed 3,000 runs in the Twenty20 tournament.

“Except for one superhuman, everyone fought on that field,” Kohli said of his star player, who reached his third half-century of the season on a slow Sharjah field.

“It was amazing. I thought I had some balls under my belt and that I could start hitting. He just came in and hit the third ball, and he said he felt good.”

“I said you could see a lot of people do what is done in other games, but only AB can do what he did. It was a fabulous hit. We were looking at 160-165, and it was only thanks to his genius that he reached 195.” .

De Villiers led the attack on the opposition bowlers with Kohli playing second fiddle at the other end as the duo scored 83 runs of the last 30 innings deliveries.

“I am very happy with my performance. That is all I can say,” De Villiers said after being named of the match.

“I got a duck in the last game, it’s a terrible feeling. I’m so happy I contributed. I was shocked today to be honest.”

Starter Aaron Finch, who hit 47, and Devdutt Padikkal, who hit 32, set the stage for the Bangalore total with a 67-run position.

The Kolkata bowling alley looked depressing in the absence of spinner Sunil Narine, who was knocked out of the XI after being warned for a suspicious bowling action.

Kolkata captain Dinesh Karthik said it was “difficult to stop” a “world-class player” like AB.

“He made the difference between the two teams. We tried everything. The only ball was the perfect swinging yorker. Anything else was fine,” Karthik said.
