Edinson Cavani may have just joined Manchester United, but he already appears to be a fan of a new Red Devils signing.
There haven’t been many Uruguayans on the list when it comes to donning Manchester United’s illustrious red jersey at Old Trafford.
As for the history of the Manchester-based club, Guillermo Varela was the last Uruguayan name to play for the Red Devils. He was a winger and did not make the most of his time at the club. Varela left United and rejoined Peñarol in 2017.
Before Varela, the only Uruguayan who wore the shirt of the giants of the Premier League was Diego Forlán. Despite being a household name today, even Forlán struggled to find the back of the net for Manchester United, having scored just 17 goals in 98 appearances.
However, a radical turn of events in recent weeks has seen not one but two Uruguayans arrive at the ‘Theater of Dreams’.
Manchester United announced the signing of Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri on Deadline Day of the summer transfer window. While the former joined the club on a free transfer, the Red Devils went on to activate the £ 10 million release clause of the latter to sign him from Peñarol.
Cavani, the top scorer in Paris Saint-Germain history with 200 goals in 301 appearances in all competitions, finally revealed how much he loves to see the style of play of the new 18-year-old Manchester United signing and his Uruguayan compatriot, Facundo Pellistri .

In his first official interview as a Manchester United player, he told the club’s official website:
“Pellistri is a young boy and I love the way he plays.
“He is the typical South American footballer who has that mischievous character in his game, and the way he lives his football is a bit like, as we say in Uruguay, being in the little field, as we call it, an improvised field where you have a kick to have fun with your classmates or whoever.
“He is a young man who has a lot to learn but also has a lot to offer. He has already shown what he can do in Peñarol, in the matches in which he appears. I liked him since he debuted with the first team in Peñarol, I liked him a lot.
“He comes here to the club, without a doubt determined to learn and mature as a player, but also to make a good contribution here himself.
“Learning his trade here will also be a great experience for him. So it will be good to meet him and travel together on this journey in this new chapter for both of us. “
Manchester United have signed Cavani and Pellistri to their 25-man Champions League squad. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to see Pellistri as a potential first team player, who can play, can play on both wings. However, it would be interesting to see how much playing time Solskjaer gives the teenager in his big season on English soil.
