Former Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama has offered a sincere apology to the Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won the treble.

The manager fully apologized to the Brazilians for tipping the Kaizer Chiefs to win the Premiership title before the Sundowns in the 2019-20 campaign.

The Tshwane-based team finally topped the Soweto giants for the league title on the final day of last season when they defeated Black Leopards 3-0, while on the other side Amakhosi drew 1-1 with Baroka.

Da Gama expressed his support for the Chiefs to clinch the title, but now regrets his words and wants them back. The outspoken mentor believes his words may have cost him a potential job at Sundowns.

“I want to teach people about the word extrapolation when you say a word and others take something and use it incorrectly. I said that based on what was happening at the time, it would be nice if the Chiefs went ahead and won, not because I hate the Sundowns.

“I said that if the Chiefs win the league title, it would be good for South African football in general. I want to categorically apologize to Sundowns because my words upset influential people in their field. I want to say I’m sorry,” he said. Da Gama.
