Cricket officials and officials were tested for Covid-19 before the start of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) season next month and Cricket Director Graeme Smith announced Monday that all tests were negative.

Smith said officials gathered in Gauteng for a four-day preparation conference in preparation for their return to play next month, where elite International Cricket Council (ICC) referees Michael Gough of England and Marais Erasmus of South Africa They gave their contributions.

“I am very happy to report that our referees without exception returned the negative tests with our medical team at the beginning of the conference and I congratulate them all for the responsible attitude they are bringing to the fore in these difficult times,” said Smith.

The former Proteas captain said the conference covered all aspects of the role of match referees and participants wrote exams on specific topics, as well as being exposed to the more practical aspects, such as the latest advances in television technology.

“It is a very important part of our planning for next season,” said the 39-year-old.

“We benefit from the valuable input from sports psychologist Dr. Dawn Saunders.”

As the CSA administration fights for its existence, the embattled cricket governing body announced last month that national cricket will return on November 2 when the Four-Day Franchise Series begins.

All six franchises will be in action Nov. 2-5, when the Dolphins host the Lions in Durban.

The Warriors will travel to Bloemfontein to face the Knights while Cape Cobras will host the Titans in Cape Town.

The franchises have been divided into two groups for the red ball competition and the Momentum One-Day Cup.

The postponement of the Superliga Mzansi means that the Franchise T20 Cup will be played in a single round and the two best teams will contest the final.

Smith said he was satisfied with what was accomplished at the conference.

“This type of interaction (conference) is incredibly valuable to our referees,” he said.

“They were also able to draw on the inspiring input from Marais Erasmus, our own representative on the ICC elite panel, who was able to relate his experiences at the final of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

“Marais is a wonderful role model for all of our referees.

“It was fitting that he presented the official CSA black blazers to the two referees recently promoted to our first-class panel, Abongile Sodumo and Mazizi Gampu,” he concluded.
