Parktown Boys’ High School principal Malcolm Williams received a termination notice from the Gauteng education department.
Williams faced three misconduct charges related to a field trip for eighth graders, where one student, Enock Mpianzi, drowned.
The 13-year-old boy was washed away by the Crocodile River while attending an orientation camp at Nyati Bush and River Break Lodge, near the British in the North West, on January 15.
He was last seen when a makeshift raft he and other children were on capsized in the river, hours after they reached the camp. His body was found two days later.

Williams was found guilty of taking the students to camp without prior approval.
He was found guilty of another charge for failing to ensure that the students who participated in the field trip would properly roll call.
However, he was found not guilty of the third accusation: that he endangered the students’ lives by ignoring safety regulations, which say that students who participate in water activities must wear life jackets.
You have the right to appeal the findings, the department said.
