In a statement Sunday, DA MP Natasha Mazzone said the tweets were blatant attempts by the EFF to incite further violence and called on Cele to ensure that Malema’s “war talk and incitement to commit violence and Paulsen is criminally investigated “.
Mazzone said the district attorney would impose a charge Monday against the couple and called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to publicly condemn the EFF.
“In the absence of responsibility for actions and statements, [Malema and the EFF] they feel increasingly emboldened to say and do what they want. South Africans are sick of it …It is time for the Minister of Police and the President of the country to make their voices heard. The district attorney will not rest until this happens, ”Mazzone said.
The district attorney’s plan to press charges comes after Mazzone urged parliament’s ethics committee on Thursday to investigate Malema and Paulsen.
He said their behavior was “deplorable” and that anyone who incites violence and encourages the destruction of property must be apprehended and convicted.
“We cannot allow anyone who incites violence among our people to go unopposed. The district attorney urges the ethics committee to investigate Malema and Paulsen’s tweets and conduct. For a party that has thousands of followers on social media, such behavior is highly irresponsible, “he said.
Responding to Mazzone on Twitter, Malema told a follower that it was a waste of time.
“They will do nothing, nothing at all. Waste of ink, ”he wrote.
