Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said he was deeply concerned by the incident.
“The incident occurred off the school premises and we have temporarily suspended the perpetrator until the necessary disciplinary process is carried out in due time. We were also informed that the assailant has allegedly been tormenting other students on several occasions, which is really concerning, ”said Lesufi.
The MEC said they condemn poor discipline in schools and do not underestimate incidents of bullying and promised to monitor the investigation very closely.
The Gauteng education department said a psychosocial team would visit the school today.
Describing developments in the basic education sector, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said the department had observed several incidents of violence involving students and a general disregard for social distancing protocols intended to slow the spread. of Covid-19 in schools.
