An alleged thief was shot and killed during a shootout with police in Pinetown, KZN.
A man was shot to death and three more suspects were arrested following a robbery in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.
According to the police spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the police officers were alerted to a robbery at a business premises on Hill Street in Pinetown. Upon arrival, they learned that the thieves had gotten into a minibus taxi.
“The taxi was intercepted at the corner of Glenugie and Kings roads, where four men and one woman got out and a shooting ensued. One man was fatally shot, another managed to flee and three were arrested. Police recovered three guns from fire and four cell phones.
“The suspects were taken to the Pinetown Police Station. They will appear in Pinetown Magistrates Court on Monday. They are facing charges of attempted murder, robbery and possession of firearms and ammunition,” Mbele said.
It is alleged that the suspects entered the business premises and demanded cash. They fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cell phones. A robbery case was opened at the Pinetown Police Station for investigation.
