Luis Suárez has claimed that Barcelona forced him to leave the club due to his close relationship with Lionel Messi.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan forward joined Atlético de Madrid last month in a £ 5.5 million deal after six successful years at Camp Nou.
Barcelona justified its departure as a kind of cost-cutting measure to lower its wage bill after having suffered a major financial hit during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Messi was frank about the nature of Suarez’s departure, saying the forward was “sent off” by the club.
And now Suarez has suggested that the real reason Barcelona got rid of him was because he was too close to Messi, who had tried to leave in early summer.
Suárez told ESPN: ‘There are many contradictions [in Barcelona’s version of events].
‘I would have looked for a solution if it had been a financial problem and if it was a sports issue I could have understood it. It is not clear to me why they made the decision they did.

I think they wanted to get me off Messi’s side. Perhaps it bothered them that he had a good relationship with Leo.
Maybe they didn’t want me so much. However, I don’t see any reason to think that that would harm the team.
“We were constantly looking for each other on the pitch, but for the good of the team. Maybe they wanted me to play with more partners.
That could have something to do with it. I can’t find any other reason to want to separate because we get along well on the pitch ”.

Messi attempted to forcibly leave Barcelona during a turbulent summer, but eventually relented to avoid a major legal battle with the club, which questioned the eligibility of his release clause.
Suarez, however, believes that “they should have respected his decision to leave.”
It happened when the Uruguayan revealed that players, including himself, were forced to train alone by coach Ronald Koeman if they weren’t considered for a game.
Suárez also revealed that he ‘spent days crying’ after being expelled from the club.
