Cavani names PSG star who told him to join Manchester United

Edinson Cavani has named the Paris Saint-Germain teammate who convinced him to join Manchester United on the day of the deadline.

It’s safe to say that this transfer window was disappointing for Manchester United. They failed to sign most of their targets and were left struggling to sign players on the cutoff day who would have been well below their wish list at the start of the window.

However, one player Manchester United fans should be really excited about is Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan has been one of Europe’s top scorers for over a decade and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League.

However, Manchester United have one of their former players to thank for convincing Cavani to move to Old Trafford. And that man is none other than Ander Herrera.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the forward revealed:

“I spoke a lot with Ander, as well as with other colleagues, like Angel Di Maria, with whom I was also in Paris. I was really reaching the last minute and I called Ander to chat.

“I have a lot of admiration for Ander, for the type of person he is, so yes, it’s true that after I finished talking with Ander we reached an agreement here with the club.

“I had not known Ander for a long time, but we formed and enjoyed a close friendship during that time at PSG and today we are still very good companions.

After scoring 104 goals for Napoli, Cavani moved to Paris Saint-Germain signed in 2013 for a transfer fee of £ 55 million. However, it was worth the money as he managed to rack up 200 goals in his 7 years at the club despite being in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first half of his career in Paris.

As a result, you definitely know where your goal is. Yes, he is 33 now, but we have seen in recent years with players like Luis Suárez and the aforementioned Zlatan Ibrahimovic that elite forwards can continue to find the back of the net deep within their careers. And Cavani is certainly someone you would put in that group.

Let’s hope he takes the Premier League like a duck overboard. And if he does, Manchester United fans already know who to thank for convincing him to join the Red Devils.
