The Eastern Cape provincial executive council has withdrawn the provincial ICT strategy document after it emerged that much of it was copied word for word from a presentation in Australia.
CAPE TOWN – Disciplinary action will be taken against Eastern Cape government officials who plagiarized a provincial ICT strategy document.
The provincial executive council withdrew the document after it came to light that much of the document was copied word for word from a presentation in Australia.
The ICT strategy document is almost identical to a foreign policy document that was written for the Australian government in 2015.
Officials say the only parts that were changed were the implementation plan, projects, and locations for deployment.
Eastern Cape Prime Minister Oscar Mabuyane, who signed the document, ordered an investigation when he learned of the plagiarism.
When the copy was confirmed, Mabuyane ordered it removed from all provincial government institutions.
His spokesman, Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha, said a new strategy document would be developed for the province.
“It must take into account the real needs of the province, the people of the province and our economy in accordance with the provincial development plan.”
