The real reason Arsenal’s play for the Ligue 1 star failed

Arsenal looked for a midfielder in the final weeks of the transfer window before they finally landed Thomas Partey.

The Ghanaian had been a long-term target for them, but as they struggled to sign him, they looked for alternatives.

They considered moves for Houssem Aouar from Lyon and Jorginho from Chelsea.

The Gunners made an offer for the Frenchman, but it wasn’t good enough to drive him away from their club.

They were eventually told it was too late for them to sell it and the Gunners made a late move for Partey.

ESPN, quoted by the Mirror, now claims that the main reason Arsenal’s attempt to land Aouar failed was because of the fee demanded by his agent to close the deal.

The report claims that Aouar’s brother Brahim, who is also acting as his agent, demanded that the Gunners pay a £ 10 million fee before he negotiated the move.

The Gunners refused to pay so much for that purpose and he remained on the French side.

Aouar is one of the best midfielders in Europe right now, but most Arsenal fans will probably be happier that the Gunners have signed Partey.

The Ghanaian has proven to be a solid player and if he performs as he did in Spain, then Arsenal will be glad they signed him.
