Liverpool have found their perfect replacement for Roberto Firmino

Liverpool could finally have the right backing for Firmino.

Liverpool’s Brazilian maestro has been very relaxed recently. The club’s fake number nine goal record in the past year has been far from what is expected of a traditional number nine. However, Firmino’s work pace and pressure often go unnoticed and overlooked despite how comprehensive he is to Jurgen Klopp’s system.

However, the Reds simply cannot rely solely on Roberto Firmino to fill the false number nine spot. While the addition of Takumi Minamino was intended to ease the pressure on the Brazilian’s shoulders, the Japanese attacker is clearly better when deployed in an offensive midfield role.

That leaves Liverpool still desperately trusting Roberto Firmino. However, all that could change soon.

The club may have let their best offensive talent go to Sheffield United in Rhian Brewster this summer, but it seems that better talent has already emerged in Kirkby.

Kopites may not know Layton Stewart’s name, but he will soon be if the 18-year-old forward continues in his incredible form.

The U18 forward has 6 goals in 3 games with the club’s U18 team. He also scored 18 times in 23 academy-level appearances last season, which is a powerful record.

But what’s most impressive about Layton Stewart is how perfectly his attributes could fit into Jurgen Klopp’s current system.

The 18-year-old likes to operate in the role of the false number nine. Stewart’s pressure has been really impressive since the beginning of the season. The young forward likes to quickly shut down his opponents and has a knack for winning the ball in dangerous positions on the pitch, just like Roberto Firmino.

More importantly, Layton Stewart is also deadly in front of goal. With games full of strength and speed for Liverpool and Firmino continuing out of shape, Jurgen Klopp could easily give Layton Stewart a first-team opportunity.

The German had no qualms about doing the same with Alexander-Arnold or Curtis Jones, Stewart could be the last to follow suit.

And if he can excel as well in the first team as he has in the academy, Liverpool could have a great gem on their hands.

Just for reference, Stewart has a similar track record to Mason Greenwood academically.
