JOHANNESBURG – NPA Director Shamila Batohi warns that budget cuts will hamper the fight against corruption.
He said South Africans are impatient and want to see people in jail.

Speaking in Parliament, Batohi said that the authority stands firm in its campaign to fight crime.
“The wheels of justice are turning, but it has been slow,” he said.

“There have been events in the last few weeks that show this. Let’s be frank and honest. This is a tiny, tiny point of a massive iceberg. So there are still big challenges in this regard.”
“We can’t do everything, the only thing we can deal with this big elephant is with little bites. In the past, these cases might never have seen the inside of the courtroom, and now they are starting to come to court, which means that things are changing. The days of impunity are limited. “
The NPA has been criticized for the slowness in corruption cases by former prosecutors and political parties, and has stated that they are aware that slow progress in complex cases has been a challenge.
