JOHANNESBURG – Former President Jacob Zuma’s foundation said it was completely disappointed by what it called the ambiguous approach of the Zondo commission, which was such an important legal forum.

The foundation has written to Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo, objecting to a notice for Friday’s due process related to a subpoena request.

He said the notice only came on Monday after Zondo announced the hearing last week and this confirmed Zuma’s fear that the commission would seek to harm him in all respects.

The Zuma Foundation said Friday’s request for a subpoena was invalid.

The foundation said the notice to appear Zuma received just Monday was an amendment to another notice related to the time he was abroad to seek medical treatment. And Zondo refused to believe that Zuma was really sick and needed to meet his doctor.

Zuma said it was unprecedented for a judge to appoint himself to meet with the doctors to show that the person in question was indeed ill and was not lying.

In addition, the foundation said that the commission was seeking an order for Zuma to appear on the same dates that the president already publicly announced, so the request itself was moot.

Meanwhile, Zuma supporters are expected to march on Friday demanding that Zondo recuse himself.
