Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a VW City Golf ran off the road and landed in the water early Thursday morning.
Spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the couple, who are from Uitenhage, veered off John Tallant Road and went over rocks, landing on Brighton Beach.
She says the 59-year-old driver suffered injuries to her face and back, while the 59-year-old passenger injured her leg.
Naidu says it is unclear what caused the accident and that police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
The incident was captured with a closed circuit television camera.
According to BesMed Emergency Medical Services, which came to the scene, the accident was due to a medical problem.
