Former Ghana midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari turned down an offer from Maritzburg United in favor of a possible move to join the Kaizer Chiefs, KickOff.com reported.
A few months ago Muntari expressed interest in playing in the South African Premiership during a radio interview with journalist Robert Marawa.
The former AC Milan, Inter Milan and Portsmouth FC player indicated his preference for the Chiefs.
Now, according to information gathered by KickOff.com, Maritzburg has made an offer to the Ghana international.
“Maritzburg United has hired the player’s representatives to discuss the potential of the player moving to KwaZulu-Natal next season,” a source told KickOff.com.
“But the player has made a decision and he just wants to play for Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa.”
The 35-year-old is currently a free agent after his short-term contract with Spain’s Albacete Balompé expired in July 2019.
The bosses are currently complying with a FIFA transfer ban that prevents them from signing any player during the next two window periods, unless their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport is successful.
Muntari is a winner of Serie A, Coppa Italia, English FA, UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
He also played in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups with the Black Stars.
