CAPE TOWN – Dis-Chem Pharmacy self-service clinics now offer COVID-19 antibody blood tests.

These laboratory-analyzed tests determine whether a person has contracted the coronavirus and, in response, developed antibodies to fight the disease.

The pharmaceutical chain already offers PCR smear tests that are used to diagnose active cases of COVID-19.

Dis-Chem national clinic manager Lizeth Kruger said the antibody test could be done at a cost of R380.

“Little by little we can begin to offer this in all of our clinics across the country. At this stage, we offer them on our direct access sites where we also do the normal swab tests.

“We send it to the Lancet, who performs the tests, and they will get the results in 12 to 48 hours.”

Kruger said that people who want to use these services should book tests on the pharmacy’s website.
