Tributes and condolences were poured out for the Tshwane metro police officer who died in a traffic accident in north Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon. Subway officer Eduard Sirakis was killed when his bakkie collided with an A Re Yeng bus at the corner of Paul Kruger Street and Mansfield Avenue.
Ambu-Link emergency services spokesman Xander Loubser said Sirakis was pronounced dead at the scene. Best Care and other emergency medical services took five injured passengers to the hospital.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by Tshwane emergency services. Loubser said the cause of the accident is unknown.
News of Sirakis’ death was shared on social media, and many colleagues and friends sent their condolences to his family. He was described as a dedicated officer who loved his job. Sirakis was off duty at the time of his death.

“We are very saddened to lose one of our hard-working officers,” said Tshwane Subway Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
“He was assigned to special operations at the time of his death. We would like to send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. “
Mahamba said a wrongful death case has been opened and will be investigated further by the police.
