The Zuma Foundation labels the Zondo commission as ‘a political process’ aimed at ‘achieving political ends’ – The Citizen

The Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Mhlanganyelwa Zuma Foundation has described the Commission of Inquiry on the Capture of the State chaired by the Vice President of the Supreme Court Raymond Zondo as “a political process that is exhibited as a legal process”, saying that it is a “bastarization” of this last “to achieve political ends for those who pull the strings from behind.”

On Thursday, the foundation issued a statement noting “with concern” a request from the commission handed over to Zuma’s legal representative on Monday.

“This is done at this late stage and a few days before a date already established for this default application,” reads a statement issued by the foundation.

On Friday, Zondo is expected to hear a request from the commission’s legal team for the authorization of a subpoena against Zuma for the former president to appear before the commission from November 16-20.

The foundation said the dates the commission was looking for in the application delivered to Zuma on Monday “are the same” as those that Zondo has publicly announced.

“Attached to the amended application is what is known as an amended application notice supported by a supplemental affidavit with which you file an Itumeleng Mosala.

“In the amended application notice, the commission secretary requests an order from the president authorizing the acting secretary to sign and issue subpoenas to compel our client to appear before the commission to answer questions from 16 to 20 November 2020 Very dates already publicly announced by the president.

“We said in our previous statement that the original request referred to the time when former President Zuma was abroad to seek medical attention,” the foundation said.

The Zuma Foundation said it was regrettable that Zondo “refused to believe” that “Zuma was really sick” and wanted to meet with the former president’s doctor, “a commitment he has not kept.”

“It is unprecedented for a judge to appoint himself to meet with the doctors to show that indeed the former president was ill, that he was not lying,” the statement read.

The Zuma foundation said the former president’s legal team “may have to grapple with” whether Zondo “can informally overturn his own ruling” to meet with Zuma’s doctors “and just move on.”

“It is regrettable that the secretariat, without acknowledging its misinterpretation in this regard, has surreptitiously tried to smuggle a new application on the back of the original that has become moot.

“We are deeply disappointed with this reverse approach from such an important legal forum. It confirms our fear that this commission seeks to harm Zuma in all respects. “

The foundation said the request delivered to Zuma on Monday “is nothing more than a ruse, the outcome of which has been clearly predetermined,” adding that it hopes the public will see the commission “and its leaders of evidence for what they are.” what he said is “A political process that is exhibited as a legal process.”

The foundation said the commission’s alleged continued biased conduct against Zuma “affirms our apprehension of bias as previously alleged.”
