JOHANNESBURG – A group of members of the African National Congress (ANC) have gathered in front of the party’s Luthuli House under the slogan “Hands off Ace Magashule” in defense of the secretary general.

Earlier on Thursday, a caravan of supporters gathered at Grasmere Toll Plaza, driving slowly towards the CBD to deliver a memorandum of grievances in relation to how Magashule was being treated.

There are perceptions that the politician is being attacked, and Magashule claims to have heard that there is an arrest warrant in his name.

The National Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on whether or not it would press charges against the ANC leader. This is related to the tender corruption, which took place under his tenure as Prime Minister of the Free State.

ANC MP Thabo Mmutle said Eyewitness news that both Magashule and former President Jacob Zuma had been wronged.

“State bodies that are used to playing on political ground, we think it is important that we stand up as a branch of the ANC in support of Comrade Ace Magashule to say enough is enough. It has happened with Jacob Zuma ”.

The grouping is also calling for the long-awaited ANC national general council to take place, and Mmutle said there were efforts to have Magashule removed due to his push for resolutions to be passed at the party’s 2017 elective conference.

“But we never said that they should use the fight against corruption to vindicate and denigrate ANC comrades and leaders for their exposure of ANC resolutions.”

Mmutle said they would also go to the state’s arrest investigation to deliver a memorandum on Zuma’s treatment on Friday.
