JOHANNESBURG – The case involving seven suspects arrested in connection with the collapse of VBS Mutual Bank on Thursday has been postponed until January next year.

The defendant made a brief appearance in Palm Ridge Magistrates Court.

They face 47 counts of theft, fraud, money laundering and organized crime.

The state asked that the matter be postponed so that more charges are added and more arrests be made.

“We hope that between now and January those things would have happened and we can share the new accusation with the accused. The investigation is continuing and it is hoped that all such developments will be finalized by January 21, “said NPA spokesman Sipho Ngwema.

On Wednesday, the bank’s former chief financial officer, Phillip Truter, was sentenced to seven years in jail after pleading guilty to all the charges against him.
