Pretoria – Sedibeng District Municipality Manager Stanley Khanyile was allegedly killed a few days before attorney William Mokhari filed a report on the misconduct charges against him.
The report was scheduled to be delivered to the MEC Lebogang Maile for traditional affairs and cooperative governance in Gauteng.
This was revealed by Maile spokesman Castro Ngobese following an investigation into whether the Gauteng government would still press disciplinary charges against Khanyile after unknown suspects killed him as if it were an execution in Meyersdal, south of Johannesburg, on Saturday. .
Ngobese said that Mokhari had completed the investigation and that the report on Khanyile was expected to be presented to Maile on Monday.
In August, Maile appointed Mokhari to investigate allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement in Sedibeng Municipality.
Mokhari was also instructed to investigate serious allegations of mismanagement and corruption against Khanyile, who served as city manager from June 2017 until his untimely death.
The accusations include that he bought a 5 million rand house by forging his wife’s signature.
The scope of the investigations also included allegations that he had increased his salary.
At the time, Maile also listed the following allegations against Khanyile: “(The allegations of) the employment of Ms. Sindiswa Mpeta, a director in her office despite her previous history of dismissal for fraud and corruption by the local municipality from Mnquma in the Eastern Cape; circumventing supply chain management processes; Irregular Appointments of Ms. Mpeta, Ms. Nonhlanhla Baleni, Mr. Jabu Nxumalo, Mr. Kutoane, Ms. Betty Petersen and License Examiners “.
Khanyile was also accused of refusing to pay scholarships for municipal officials, but allegedly approved a scholarship for Mpeta.
Other allegations include that he appointed 10 other staff members to his office without any budget for the appointments.
He was also accused of having illegally appointed a law firm to perform legal work for the municipality, including the services of a security company, allegedly without any authorization.
During his initial appointment, Maile further instructed Mokhari to establish whether the allegations were truly substantiated and that he was empowered to make recommendations on appropriate sanctions.
Meanwhile, the police are still on a massive hunt for Khanyile’s killers.
At the time of publication, Gauteng police spokesman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said police were still busy with investigations, adding that so far no arrests had been made.
On Sunday, the mayor of Sedibeng, Busisiwe Modisakeng, paid tribute to Khanyile, saying that she had learned with shock and sadness about his sudden death.
