JOHANNESBURG – The curators who seized the assets of businessman Edwin Sodi are now consolidating and separating the assets they took out of his business.

On Tuesday, the unit attached assets that were allegedly purchased with cash from the 2014 asbestos tender in the Free State.

Sodi was handcuffed by the Hawks last week for illegally profiting from the project.

He and his six co-defendants have been released on bail.

Some of Sodi’s vehicles left the Bryanston offices of his Blackhead Consulting company.

This was for curators who were stationed at the facility to evaluate the cars before taking them away.

Vehicles seized so far include a Ferrari, a Porsche, and a Bentley.

Sipho Ngwema, from the National Tax Authority (NPA), said Sodi’s properties had also been seized.

“But also, they are seizing the houses, that according to the order, he can still have custody, but he is not allowed to make any alteration.”

The NPA said the Asset Forfeiture Unit was conducting similar operations at the homes of Sodi’s co-defendants in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

The unit wants to recover R300 million in assets from the seven defendants for the R255 million project.

R5 million has been charged as interest.
