CAPE TOWN – The state capture commission heard Monday how former South African Airways (SAA) board chairman Dudu Myeni made an offer for Jacob Zuma to set up an internal investigation at Eskom.
The investigation was requested by the then president to investigate certain executives of the electricity company.
That was according to former Eskom consultant Nicholas Linnell, who testified at the commission.
Linnell said Myeni is the one who coordinated the investigation while she was still SAA president.
But Linnell told the commission that Myeni was acting more like a political adviser and confidant to Zuma.
“She was carrying out her orders at Eskom, SAA or anywhere else, that’s what I understood. It had nothing to do with SAA, she was there because she was their intermediary and played the same role in other domains, “said Linnell.
Testifying via video link, Linnell also told the commission that it was wrong to refer to him as Myeni’s “fixer.”
“Things were fixed in the right sense and that could be fairly attributed, but the narrative itself is probably not reasonable,” he said.
