Roads in Johannesburg’s central business district, parts of Soweto and Roodepoort were flooded when a storm moved through the province.
JOHANNESBURG – The South African Meteorological Service is warning Gauteng residents to expect another rainy day, and motorists are urged to avoid low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Parts of the city were severely flooded yesterday when heavy rains hit Gauteng.
Roads in the CBD, parts of Soweto and Roodepoort were flooded when a thunderstorm ripped through the province.
Nana Radebe of the Jo’burg Emergency Services says they responded to reports that a woman had been struck by lightning in Melville, who died at the scene.
Radebe also says his teams remain on high alert.
Forecaster Edward Engelbrecht says there will likely be some flooding in the northern parts of Gauteng later today.
“We expect a lot of rain today, but no severe thunderstorms. It’s going to be mild throughout the day, and it will get a little more intense later in the afternoon.”
