Andy Cole knows a thing or two about scoring goals for Manchester United.
The treble winner scored 121 times for the club en route to winning five Premier League titles.
Cole backs new signing Edinson Cavani to succeed at Old Trafford.
The Times reports that Cavani will complete his transfer to United today before the 11 p.m. deadline.
Cole believes that the Uruguayan forward will be a great success and feels that Anthony Martial will benefit from the veteran’s arrival.
Cole said Talksport: “If you look at Cavani’s record, he’s a guy who gets little tap-ins, can pick up the ball and take on a couple of players and put it in the top bin. It has those qualities.
“If you look at him during his career, wherever he went, I saw him several times at PSG, some of the goals he gets are very good quality striker goals, and that’s what Manchester United need.
“Martial is still a baby, he is still learning his job. We all know what a good player he is, but on the other hand he can be a bit inconsistent. Many Man United fans want to see him do it week after week.
“When someone like Cavani comes in, we know what we are going to achieve: a proven scorer, he works very hard, he will score all kinds of goals. United love a person who can score goals. “
Martial needs help
Martial scored 23 goals to finish as United’s top scorer last season. But he’s on a losing streak.
In his last eight games for United this season and at the end of last season combined, Martial has only one goal.
He has failed to register a shot on goal this season in the Premier League.
Odion Ighalo is there as a backup, but hasn’t been able to bench in the last two league games.
Cavani scored 200 goals for PSG in seven seasons, and his experience will be vital to timid United.
The team recorded just one open-play goal attempt against Tottenham on Sunday in a 6-1 loss at Old Trafford.
