Zuma wanted Eskom to investigate, but Myeni did the dirty work.

Linnell said: “The president would seek the consensus of the minister [of public enterprises Lynne Brown] while the president [Tsotsi] I would seek the support of the Eskom board. “

Asked what he understood to be Myeni’s role in the meeting, since she had nothing to do with Eskom affairs as she was SAA president, Linnell said he understood her role to be that of an “intermediary.”

“She was there because she was his intermediary and political ally of the president. He was aware that there were people involved with political connections. At the time, my perception was that this was excellent: having an investigation on Eskom was a very urgent matter, ”he said.

But Myeni has a different version, the commission told Linnell. According to her, Zuma never participated in the Durban meeting. Furthermore, Myeni claims that Tsotsi went to the meeting to discuss her fears that her colleagues on the Eskom board would conspire to oust her via a vote of no confidence.

Linnell said no such discussions took place at the meeting and that he was “sure” that Zuma attended.

His version is backed by Tsotsi, who has testified in commission about the same meeting.

Myeni and Zuma have yet to appear before the commission to testify their version under oath.

Linnell’s testimony continues.
