Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has confirmed to give his blessings to Sandile Zungu, who bought the AmaZulu soccer club last week.

This came up during the Marawa Sports Worldwide radio talk show when Zungu confirmed that he had purchased 100% of the club from Patrick Sokhela, who has been the owner for the past 16 years.

It is understood that it has always been a rule that whoever buys the club formed back in 1932 ensures that the Zulu royalty are well informed about such plans.

Zungu, a businessman from Durban, Zungu, said: “It is very important for a team named after the zulu nation (Zulu Nation) to always respect the relationship with royalty, especially to give His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini the respect he deserves. So even before we could put pen to paper, we endeavored to reach out to him to seek his understanding and blessings. We could not locate him, but he was quite clear that if he could not locate him he would postpone the press conference (last week) ”.

Zungu added: “There was no way for the king to hear from the media that a transaction of this magnitude has taken place without his endorsing it or expressing his doubts. And we actually contacted him and he was absolutely excited that the team would stay in KwaZulu-Natal province and I am the person who knows him that I am the one who is becoming the owner. He was specific: Sokhela is happy and I told her that I was happy and that she is with us at the press conference and that I was absolutely delighted.

He said it was essential for Zwelithini that he and Sokhela have a smooth transfer.

“When AmaZulu was formed in 1932, they came to his majesty at the time when King Solomon kaDinuzulu to receive his blessing. He sacrificed and elaborated for the team at Kwadlamahlahla in 1933. That history and association with the king is quite ingrained. The king will remind us that the people died for the preservation of the nation’s symbols and AmaZulu is one of the nation’s symbols. So I had to remind the players that when they put on that jersey, remember the warriors, some who were Zulus and some who were Sothos, who were fighting in the Battle of Isandlwana and defeated the British. You must be prepared to die on the battlefield for the honor of the AmaZulu soccer club, ”Zungu said.

He declined to disclose how much he paid for the club, but admitted they have a mountain to climb to reposition Durban-based AmaZulu as a force to be reckoned with.

He also confirmed that Ayanda Dlamini and Spar will continue to be the head coach and sponsor of the team.
