With Elton Jantjies as his flying half, Nohamba showed a maturity to accompany his skill.
The 21-year-old still has a long way to go and probably won’t rush into anything big, even if the Rugby Championship starts on November 7, but early indications are that he’s impressing the right people.
“It was really good,” said Springbok captain Siya Kolisi after leading the Bok Green team to victory.
“He’s got a lot of energy and one thing I like about him is that he’s not afraid to chat and take control. I told him before continuing, ‘I don’t want to hear you keep quiet now when it matters most. ‘.
“It was good to see him take control with guys like Elton helping him.”
Nohamba’s form in Super Rugby this year had been excellent before the tournament was called off in March, with 2020 his breakthrough season, as he shared scrum-half duties in Durban with Louis Schreuder, who has since left the franchise. .
“He was confident, he had fun … he released the ball quickly,” Kolisi added.
“It would have been nice to see what would have happened if we got to 22 more often, because I think he hits the ball well for the forwards and quickly comes off the breakout.
“I’m sure we’ll see him more at the Currie Cup, where he’ll be one of the leaders in the Sharks. I’m looking forward to seeing him and all the younger guys.”
In the first round of ‘Super Rugby Unlocked’, which begins next weekend, the Sharks host the Lions in Durban on Friday, October 9.
