CAPE TOWN – Dignitaries who attended the funeral of Cape Town Detective Lieutenant Colonel Charl Kinnear on Saturday said the best way to honor him would be to continue his legacy of fighting crime.
Kinnear was buried Saturday after he was shot and killed outside his Bishop Lavis home more than two weeks ago.
His funeral was held at Every Nation Church in Goodwood with the attendance of family, friends, colleagues and other dignitaries.
Western Cape Commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Chris Nissen said no stone should be left unturned until all those involved in the crime are brought to account.
“He did justice to a lot of people through the cases he investigated. We will be monitoring the situation [and] make sure you get justice and justice will be served, ”Nissen said.
Nissen also urged citizens to work with the police.
“We call on the Cape Flats community, please, the time has come for you to stand up and speak. Because if you don’t stand up and speak, tomorrow it will happen to you.
“Let us give our support to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and ensure that what happened to Charl does not happen to any other member of the police in the Western Cape,” he said.
Western Cape Prime Minister Alan Winde said Kinnear was not only working on general crime in the province, but was also eliminating crime within the system.
Winde highlighted Kinnear’s values.
“For those criminals, we need everyone to be introduced. Kinnear loved his family and was also dedicated to doing the book justice, ”Winde said. “It did not matter if it was day or night, when the call came, we went out with his team to serve the people of this province and country.”
