A Limpopo district councilor has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
A Limpopo neighborhood councilor has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
The ward councilor was arrested Saturday night in Mokwakwaila, on the outskirts of Tzaneen. He reportedly offered to take the girl home around noon on Thursday and stopped on the way to rape her, said provincial police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
“The suspect allegedly offered to drive the victim on Thursday, October 1 at around 12:00. The suspect then drove into the bushes next to the village of Rampepe, where he allegedly raped the girl. He then reportedly raped her. He took him home and gave him money and a cell phone and I told him not to tell anyone, “he said.
However, once the girl returned home, her mother asked her about the cell phone and it broke, Mojapelo added.
“The girl started crying when her mother asked her about her cell phone. Then she told her what had happened. The matter was reported to the police and last night the councilor was arrested.
The man is expected to appear in Bolobedu Magistrates Court on Monday.
