The 56-year-old recently left the Brazilians for the Red Devils after eight years at Chloorkop

Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane responded to what appeared to be a blow directed by Mamelodi Sundowns assistant manager Rhulani Mokwena.

Mokwena was rumored to be targeting Al Ahly as an assistant to Mosimane, who left the Brazilians this week to join the Red Devils on a two-year deal that runs through 2022.

However, the 35-year-old mentor issued a statement, stating that he will stay at Sundowns because he was ‘loyal’.

The word “loyal” did not sit well with Mosimane, as he felt Mokwena was referring to him after leaving Sundowns for Al Ahly.

In response to a congratulatory statement from the South African presidency, the Kagiso-born mentor beat up his former colleague.

The couple worked together for years and it was Mokwena who jumped on the ship for the first time, joining the Orlando Pirates as Milutin Sredojevic’s assistant.

Mokwena spent two and a half years in Mayfair before going to Chippa United to be their head coach.

It was Mosimane who urged Sundowns management to bring Mokwena back to the club following Chippa’s decision not to renew his contract beyond June 2020.

Meanwhile, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa praised Mosimane’s appointment as Al Ahly coach.

Ramaphosa said the Kagiso-born mentor will be missed as a force in South African football, and he feels his appointment will strengthen relations between South Africa and Egypt.

“Pitso Mosimane will be missed as a force in South African football, but his appointment by the flagship club of our continent strengthens the ties of friendship between our two countries,” Ramaphosa said on the website of the presidency.

“It is also an acknowledgment of the talent and ability that reside within our own continent. I wish Pitso and his team the best as they fly our flag and the banner of continental football with a club that all Africans are proud of.” Ramaphosa added.
