The Mpumalanga Division of the Nelspruit High Court has convicted a former police officer of murdering her husband.
The 43-year-old former police officer and her 26-year-old co-defendant were found to have carried out the crime in 2017.
“This inexplicable incident stemmed from an orchestrated plan that was executed in 2017, in which former Sergeant Lerato Mokoena, along with Mduduzi Ndlovu, murdered Vusi Dlamini, her husband who was also a police sergeant at the time,” she said. the provincial police. spokesman for Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
On the day of the crime, Mokoena and her husband went for a run while Ndlovu followed the couple, driving in Mokoena’s vehicle. Ndlovu deliberately ran over Dlamini, killing him instantly, Hlathi says.
“The vehicle was so damaged that it could no longer move, forcing Ndlovu to abandon it and flee the scene on foot. Mokoena was left stranded there with her husband’s lifeless body,” she said.
Police and paramedics were notified of the incident and Dlamini was certified dead at the scene. Police launched a manhunt for Ndlovu, who later turned himself in.
Hlathi said:
It turned out that Mokoena and Ndlovu planned the murder by making it look like an accident. Ndlovu finally revealed to the police and detailed exactly what happened that day. Mokoena was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder against her husband. However, she was released on bail and Ndlovu remained in pre-trial detention until her conviction on Thursday.
Mokoena’s bail was revoked and she was detained after being found guilty. The defendants are expected to appear in court again on January 14 for sentencing.
