Naby Keita hints at a partnership in midfield

After Liverpool’s last session at Melwood, Naby Keita uploaded two photos of himself and fellow midfielder Gini Wijnaldum in action to his Instagram story. The duo could be counted on to start against Villa in the absence of new signing Thiago Alcantara and captain Jordan Henderson.

The Guinean has not had the strongest start to his Anfield career since joining in 2018. He has suffered multiple injuries that put him out of action for a total of 28 games in his two seasons with the Reds (via Transfermarkt). However, the back end of last season saw the skills of the 48 million pounds that transfer fans had been waiting for.

He contributed to three goals in three winning performances towards the end of the season and has appeared in every Liverpool game this period so far.

With three veteran midfielders ruled out, Keita and Wijnaldum could be ready to team up and deliver a solid performance in the middle of the park against Villa. Indeed, the Dutchman showed good form midweek, completing 100% of his passes, including a key pass and two precise long passes in a 14-minute cameo against Arsenal (SofaScore).
