“I just want to thank the Captain [Mohsen] Saleh here as head of the board, but first of all, I must thank Captain ‘Bibo’. [Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib]‚” Mosimane said.

“I have been entrusted with the opportunity to lead and lead the Team of the Century, and I know how great the job is.

“I come here with the practical experience of having played Al Ahly four times, twice in Cairo and two in South Africa.

“And I had the practical experience of Ahly as a great club, I am the club of the century on the continent. And I’ve seen how big they are outside and inside Cairo and Egypt.

“Of course I can see familiar faces here that I have interacted with before, among journalists. And you have treated me very well, with respect, and I returned the same respect.

“Of course it wasn’t easy for me to come to Ahly and leave Mamelodi Sundowns that I have so much respect for my team. I spent eight years at Sundowns and it’s not easy to walk away from a team you’ve been with for eight years.

“I think that shows how great Ahly is. And Ahly is respected on the continent and he’s respected in South Africa.

“I was reading the message that came out in the media that came out in the media from the president of my country [Cyril Ramaphosa] wishing me luck to come here.

And I also have correspondence from the president of Mamelodi Sundowns [Patrice] wishing me luck to come here. And the Sundowns fans came to the airport to wish me luck and send me here.

“You will usually find fans angry that you leave them, especially after the success we had this year, which was one of the most important seasons because we won three trophies in South Africa.

“So while we were celebrating, I was leaving, which was not good. But there is a positive side: I’m going for Tom Ahly, it’s a great club. “

“I am honored to be here. I was listening to Captain Saleh about my CV and why I was chosen to be Ahly’s coach out of all the big names from all over the world.

“That’s why I don’t take where I am for granted, I know where I am.

“And I know the responsibilities of my job here. I know the pressures and the tensions. Because it is not the first time that I am in Egypt, I have seen the pressures of playing the Caf Champions League against Al Ahly and Zamalek ”.

Mosimane’s most notable clash against Ahly came when the Sundowns beat the Red Devils 5-0, their biggest loss in nearly 80 years, in last year’s Champions League.

Ahly, the record eight-time winner of the competition, is desperate to record his first win since defeating the Orlando Pirates in the 2013 final seven years ago, as Mosimane leads them in this month’s semifinals against Wydad Casablanca.
