A decision has not yet been made on the ousted mayor of Mangaung after arrest: Free State ANC

Malefu Mofokoeng, speaking on behalf of ANC supporters outside court, said: “We support Sarah Mlamleli, who we believe was attacked due to a political ploy.

“We believe they are going after people close to Ace Magashule and we will not accept it.”

When asked about the allegations that millions of people were diverted during the asbestos project, Mofokoeng gave a vague answer. He asked why these problems were only now arising.

“This thing has been around for a long time. The issue of service delivery should be addressed to officials, not to Ms Mlamleli, who is a ‘politician and not a civil servant’ ”.

Members of the ANC carried banners outside the court that read: “State resources must not be used for political battles” and “Hands off.”

Meeko said officials were studying how to implement the decision made by the NEC last month that those facing criminal charges should step aside. However, Meeko said that the ANC constitution also states that a person is innocent until proven guilty, a fact that officials needed to take into account.

Meeko said the state’s arrest investigation was addressing more than one issue.

“We do not want to react to just one issue, namely the arrest of Ms. Mlamleli. We are still analyzing all those problems. As soon as a decision is made, the public will be informed about the action that has been taken, ”Meeko said.

Mlamleli was removed as mayor of Mangaung in August after a vote of no confidence against her.
