JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng government said the resignation of Health HOD Professor Mkhululi Lukhele took immediate effect.

It is alleged that he did not adequately monitor tenders for COVID-19 personal protective equipment.

The Right2Know campaign in Gauteng said it wanted him arrested along with other senior officials involved in dodgy takeover deals.

The organization held a picket outside the department in Johannesburg on Friday to call for immediate action against COVID-19 corruption.

Gauteng government spokesman Thabo Masebe: “The Prime Minister had placed Professor Lukhele on preventive suspension on Wednesday 30 September 2020 following the recommendations of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
