Cape Town motorists have been urged to be cautious on the roads, as strong winds continue to hit the city.
On Thursday, Chantel Alexander, of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management, said the meteorological office issued a warning about the strong gusty winds from the southeast currently being experienced in the metropolis.
“The City cautions motorists in particular to be careful on the roads and the general public to ensure that temporary structures or anything else that can blow up is securely anchored.
“We advise the public to stay indoors whenever possible.”
Alexander said the southeast winds were expected to begin to subside overnight.
He said all city services and outside agencies were on hold.
“Residents are reminded to call the City’s Public Emergency Communication Center on 021 480 7700 from a cell phone or 107 from a landline in case of an emergency.”
Earlier, South African Weather Service spokeswoman Hannelee Doubell said: “Already a cold front accompanied by a steep upper depression made landfall over the Western Cape on Wednesday afternoon, causing scattered or scattered showers in the southwest.
“More snowfall can be expected over these regions on Friday. Over the Western Cape, cold, cloudy and windy conditions with heavy rains and localized flooding will dominate the circulation pattern, ”said Doubell.
