Every day there is more uncertainty about whether Manchester United will move to sign Jadon Sancho.
So if it is not going to be possible to sign him, United must move and look for alternative options.
The problem is that a transfer alone will not make up for United missing the club’s main transfer objective.
There is a combination of four transfers United could make that could lift the heartache of the transfer market.
Why would this work?
Sarr and Dembélé are like two pieces of a puzzle that individually do not fit together so well.
Two players are better than one, and each of them would have a hard time coping with the pressure of being the ‘alternative to Sancho’.
Dembélé has experience, while Sarr lacks, and could help the Watford winger in the short term.
In a loan agreement, Dembélé would be free of United commitments, while there is extra time to sign Sarr due to the extended deadline to buy players from Liga de Fútbol clubs on October 16.
Edinson Cavani is a free agent and as such, there is also no deadline until October 5 to sign the Uruguayan.
The former PSG striker is 33 years old and has a record of 200 goals in 301 games for the French team. On a free transfer, it’s worth the gamble, and Anthony Martial could learn a lot from him.
Getting a new striker is important and it also helps both ends.
He would also help left-back Alex Telles, who United are trying to sign from Porto.
Telles has excellent crossover ability and having Cavani at the end of his deliveries would complement his style.
This combination could help United forget about Sancho at least in the short term and give the team some exciting new options.
Only Telles and Dembélé need to be completed by October 5, with additional time for Sarr and Cavani, making it a plausible foursome for United, even if slow, to be completed over the next fortnight.
