Local government, environmental issues and development planning MEC Anton Bredell urged people living and traveling in the affected areas to be aware of the forecast weather conditions.

He also asked them to limit travel and outdoor activities as much as possible in the coming days.

Bredell spokesman James Brent Styan said: “We will have a lot of rain in areas that have not rained before; which includes the Central Karoo region, parts of the Garden Route, as well as Overberg.

“We also expect the very, very strong winds to continue at least tomorrow night in the city of Cape Town and other parts of the province.”
