CAPE TOWN – The motive for a mass shooting in Khayelitsha is still unclear.

Six men were shot dead and four others wounded when gunmen opened fire at a home at Site C on Wednesday afternoon.

“People seem to find it normal to just take out their guns and shoot people like flies,” said Ndithini Tyhido of the Khayelitsha Development Forum.

He said the community was shocked and angry and needed to deal with crime.

“We need to come together as a community and mobilize and be vigilant and take control of our streets.”

However, Tyhido added that the forum had made many calls for an additional police station in the area.

“I think there is a problem with the police structural arrangements that make the area difficult to police. There are still no access roads there.”
