Lee Dixon claims Arsenal should aim for a top four result at the end of this season.
The Gunners finished well last season when Mikel Arteta helped them win the FA Cup and Community Shield.
They started this season with three consecutive victories in domestic competitions before being defeated 3-1 by Liverpool in their last league match.
The Gunners have improved from last year and there is even talk of a title challenge if they continue to impress as they have thus far.
Dixon, however, thinks they should consider finishing within the top four as their goal.
He praised the club’s signing of Gabriel Magalhaes before urging the team to take advantage of Manchester United and Tottenham struggles to enter the top four.
He told Talksport via Metro: ‘Looking ahead, we’ve seen how good they are at counterattack. Defensively, I like Gabriel and I think he will be a good player for Arsenal.
But the first four are the absolute minimum for me now. “When you look at the league and you see that Manchester United are struggling, Tottenham is not there yet so there are gaps to be able to sneak into the top four and I think that’s what he will be seeing.
Arsenal have made great progress with Arteta so far and we hope they will do even better as the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if they can finish this season within the top four again.
